End-of-Service Benefits (Gratuity)

Every expat who completes at least one year of continuous service is entitled to end-of-service gratuity.
Gratuity is calculated at a minimum of 21 days of basic wage for each completed year of service.
Example: If your basic monthly salary is QAR 3,000 and you worked for 5 years, your gratuity calculation would be:
In 2026, enforcement of end-of-service benefits became more stringent. Employers must settle gratuity immediately upon termination. Delays can lead to legal claims or financial penalties.
Notice Period Rules
Either party — you or your employer — must give written notice before ending the employment relationship.
| Length of Service | Notice Period |
| Less than 2 years | 1 month |
| 2 to 5 years | 3 month |
| More than 5 years | 5 month |
If either side fails to give proper notice, they must pay compensation equal to the basic wage for the required period.
If you plan to leave Qatar, you must give written notice of no more than 2 months.
The Wage Protection System — How Your Salary Is Protected
Qatar uses the Wage Protection System (WPS) to monitor salary payments in real time.
Every employer must pay salaries through WPS-registered bank accounts. The system flags any delay automatically. If your employer misses your salary payment, the Ministry of Labor receives an alert within days.
By 2026, labor compliance in Qatar shifted to a real-time digital format. The Ministry of Labor and Qatar Central Bank now use built-in monitoring systems.
If your salary is delayed by more than 7 days, you have the right to file a complaint directly with the Ministry of Labor.
