Your Right to Change Jobs — No NOC Required
This is one of the most important rights expats gained through Qatar's 2020 labor reforms.
Updated labor laws give expat workers the right to change jobs without requiring a No Objection Certificate from their current employer. Law No. 18 of 2020 enables employees to transition between roles within the labor market without prior restrictive approvals.
What this means practically:
- You do not need your employer's permission to switch jobs
- Your employer cannot legally block your transfer
- You can move to a better opportunity without fear of retaliation
If your employer threatens you over a job change, contact the MDPS Labor Department immediately.
