Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman and Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani review bilateral ties and coordinate on de-escalation efforts, including freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has received a telephone call from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, HE Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.

During the call, the two sides reviewed relations of cooperation between the two countries and ways to support and strengthen them, and discussed the latest regional developments, particularly the diplomatic efforts under way and the joint coordination to de-escalate tensions and promote security and stability in the region.

Sheikh Mohammed underlined the importance of all parties committing to dialogue and diplomacy and implementing what had been agreed under the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, including ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, in order to protect regional security, preserve the gains achieved and promote stability.

He also reaffirmed the State of Qatar's full support for all efforts aimed at containing the escalation and reaching sustainable solutions to outstanding regional issues through peaceful means.

The call is the latest in a series of consultations among Gulf foreign ministers amid heightened tensions in the region. Bahrain has been among the Gulf states targeted in recent Iranian strikes, and Qatar has repeatedly voiced its solidarity with its neighbours and condemned the attacks.
