Seoul, October 13, 2026 : South Korea has urged North Korea to immediately stop its ballistic missile launches after detecting multiple missiles fired towards the East Sea, prompting an emergency meeting of the presidential National Security Office.
South Korean presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said the call was made during a security meeting convened after the military detected the launches from the Pyongyang area on Monday.
In a written briefing, Kang said the repeated launches violated United Nations Security Council resolutions and did not contribute to managing the current situation on the Korean Peninsula. She urged Pyongyang to halt such activities immediately.
Officials from the Defense Ministry and the Joint Chiefs of Staff attended the meeting to assess South Korea’s military readiness and the broader security situation following North Korea’s latest missile launches.
The National Security Office also called for all necessary measures to be taken as officials evaluated the potential security implications of the launches.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said earlier that North Korea had fired multiple ballistic missiles towards the East Sea, with at least one missile travelling more than 900 kilometres, according to the military.
