Beijing, October 13, 2026 : China has called on the United States to adhere to the One-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, urging Washington to handle the Taiwan issue cautiously and take concrete steps to protect bilateral relations and regional stability.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks during a regular press conference on Monday, responding to a US State Department statement that described China’s maritime activities off Taiwan’s east coast as “deeply destabilizing.”
Mao said Beijing had repeatedly clarified its position, maintaining that China’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf extend into waters east of Taiwan and that its activities in the area fall within its sovereign rights and jurisdiction.
She rejected allegations that China was responsible for disrupting stability in the waters, saying that the party creating tensions was not the Chinese side.
Mao reiterated Beijing’s position that Taiwan is an internal matter for China and should not be subject to external interference. She urged Washington to approach the issue prudently and take practical measures to safeguard bilateral ties and peace and stability in the region.
