Doha, October 19, 2026 : Qatar’s National Sport Day Committee has unveiled the plans and programs for the 2027 edition of National Sport Day, which will take place across the country in February under the theme “Ramadan .. A Golden Opportunity.”
For the first time, National Sport Day will coincide with the holy month of Ramadan, providing an opportunity to encourage residents to maintain physical activity and adopt healthy habits throughout the month.
The event’s new identity and program details were announced at a press conference at Lusail Sports Arena on Sunday, attended by representatives of partner organizations. The planned activities aim to encourage participation across all segments of society and promote exercise as part of everyday life.
Advisor to the Minister of Sports and Youth and President of the National Sport Day Committee Abdulrahman bin Musallam Al Dosari said the occasion plays an important role in raising awareness of sports and their contribution to health and quality of life.
He noted that holding the event during Ramadan offers an opportunity for people to adjust their daily routines and incorporate physical activity into their lifestyles. He added that sports should be viewed as a consistent personal and social responsibility rather than an activity limited to special occasions.
Al Dosari said the committee continues to expand community participation through initiatives designed for different groups, supporting Qatar’s vision of building a healthy and active society in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
Established by Amiri decree in 2011, National Sport Day is observed annually on the second Tuesday of February. The occasion reflects Qatar’s commitment to promoting physical activity, public health and human development.
Activities in 2027 will be organized at public parks, walking and running tracks, and sports facilities across the country, making participation accessible to communities in different areas. Planned activities include walking, running, fitness exercises, football, basketball, tennis, taekwondo, cycling, swimming and recreational sports suitable for different ages and physical abilities.
Director of the Public Relations and Communication Department at the Ministry of Public Health Nasser Ahmed Al Khori highlighted the role of National Sport Day in raising health awareness, preventing diseases and encouraging sustained physical activity.
He said the ministry’s participation supports its efforts to promote healthy lifestyles, adding that health teams will be stationed at event locations to provide medical assistance and help ensure participants’ safety.
The 2027 edition is expected to attract broad community participation, using the timing of Ramadan to encourage residents to stay active and maintain healthy habits beyond the national occasion.
