Doha, October 18, 2026 : The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has organized a mental health awareness campaign through its Health Education Department, working with multidisciplinary teams across its health centres to promote mental wellbeing and encourage people to seek support when needed.
Held under the 2026 theme, “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change,” the campaign aimed to reduce stigma surrounding mental health, encourage early recognition of concerns, and empower individuals and families to access appropriate support.
Dr. Maryam Al Emadi, PHCC Director of Clinical Operations and Senior Consultant in Family Medicine, highlighted that mental health is an integral part of overall health and wellbeing. She stressed the importance of incorporating mental health promotion into primary healthcare through multidisciplinary cooperation, with a focus on prevention, early identification and timely access to suitable services.
Dr. Al Emadi also noted that listening to patients’ experiences and understanding their challenges are essential to delivering compassionate, integrated and person-centred care.
Dr. Sarah Rashid Musa, PHCC Manager of Health Education and Consultant in Community Medicine, said effective mental health education goes beyond raising awareness. It also involves understanding people’s experiences, identifying obstacles that prevent them from seeking help, and equipping them with practical ways to manage their wellbeing.
She highlighted the role of health educators in improving mental health literacy, building coping and self-management skills, and encouraging lasting behavioural changes through achievable wellbeing goals and appropriate guidance.
The campaign included interactive educational stations covering mental health awareness, stress management, emotional wellbeing and healthy coping strategies. Participants also took part in practical activities, including breathing and grounding exercises and emotional expression sessions.
Additional guidance focused on the importance of quality sleep, physical activity, balanced nutrition and supportive social relationships in maintaining mental wellbeing.
