Conference on women, peace and security
The State of Qatar participated in the 4th high-level ministerial conference on women, peace and security, which concluded today at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.
The conference was held in partnership with UN Women and focused on enhancing protection and comprehensive response to the needs of women in conflict zones.
The Qatari delegation to the two-day conference was led by Assistant Undersecretary for Social Development Affairs at the Ministry of Social Development and Family Fahd bin Mohammed Al Khayareen.
The conference provided an important opportunity to shed light on the challenges facing women in conflict zones and to develop effective strategies for their protection and empowerment. Participants discussed several topics such as the suffering of women, human rights violations under Israeli occupation, wars, armed conflicts, and instability, as well as the challenges and opportunities related to women and development. Efforts to support women within the peace and security agenda were also addressed.
The event witnessed the participation of ministers, heads of womens affairs mechanisms in Arab countries, senior figures from international and regional organizations, representatives from relevant UN agencies, and a number of experts and specialists, as well as representatives of institutions concerned with women and peace issues from around the world.
It is worth noting that the conference coincided with the 25th anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which emphasizes the role of women in achieving peace and security.
