JD Vance, US Vice President
US Vice President JD Vance announced that the American delegation had departed Pakistan after 21 hours of negotiations with Iran, confirming that the talks ended without agreement.
Speaking to reporters, Vance acknowledged âshortcomingsâ in the discussions, stating that the Iranian delegation refused to accept Washingtonâs terms. He declined to specify which proposals were rejected but emphasized that the United States sought clear assurances that Tehran would not pursue a nuclear weapon.
âThe bad news is that we have not reached an agreement, and I think thatâs bad news for Iran much more than itâs bad news for the United States of America,â Vance said. He added that the US negotiating team remained in direct contact with President Donald Trump throughout the talks and had presented what he described as âour final and best offer.â
Vance further noted: âWe just could not get to a situation where the Iranians were willing to accept our terms. I think we were quite flexible, we were quite accommodating. The president told us, âYou need to come here in good faith and make your best effort to get a deal.â We did that, and unfortunately, we werenât able to make any headway.â
The Vice Presidentâs remarks underscore the widening gap between Washington and Tehran, despite international efforts to consolidate a ceasefire and stabilize the region. Analysts warn that the failure to reach an agreement could complicate broader diplomatic initiatives aimed at deâescalation and safeguarding global energy and maritime security.
