Golden Pass LNG, a joint venture between QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil, has reached an important milestone that brings it closer to full operations of its liquefied natural gas (“LNG”) production and export facilities, with the first LNG produced from the first of 3 LNG trains that make up the 18 million tons per annum facility.

1st LNG enables Golden Pass LNG to produce its first cargo from its facilities in Sabine Pass, Texas, through sustained liquefaction operations and attainment of commercial & strategic goals.

Commenting on this occasion, His Excellency Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, President and CEO of QatarEnergy said:

“First LNG is especially significant for one of the largest single investments in U.S. LNG history. The commercial operations and inauguration of Golden Pass LNG coincides with a critical phase when global energy security is high on the energy agenda across nations worldwide. We expect the start of export operations to be successful and safe.”

His Excellency Minister Al-Kaabi said:

“Golden Pass LNG fits in a broader QatarEnergy strategy around global investment that we have been working on for the last decade. It also represents a big piece of the ambitions that QatarEnergy laid out in 2018 to invest 20 billion dollars in the U.S. energy sector. We are now witnessing the first fruits of this far-sighted strategy with the start of Golden Pass LNG, which will contribute significantly to underpinning global energy security and providing just and equitable access to cleaner energy.”

In closing his speech, H.E. the Minister stated:

“I want to thank the U.S. regulators for their effective work which has brought us to this moment. I would also like to recognize our strategic partner, ExxonMobil, with whom we are continuing our close work implementing this and other projects globally. Finally, I would like to thank the management and all employees at Golden Pass LNG as well as members of the teams at QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil for their dedication and commitment, which is essential to helping make our energy commitment a reality.”

Golden Pass LNG is a joint venture between QatarEnergy (70%) and ExxonMobil (30%). They had announced their final investment decision of over 10 billion dollars for developing the Golden Pass LNG export project in February 2019.

The project is expected to commence global LNG exports in the second quarter of 2026.
