Kolyma Highway, Russia — "Road of Bones"
This 1,262-kilometer route through Siberia was built by prisoners in Stalin-era labor camps, and thousands of workers who died during construction are believed to be buried beneath the roadbed itself. Winter temperatures can drop to -60°C, and a breakdown here is often fatal simply because there's nowhere to shelter; by summer, the road turns to thick, vehicle-swallowing mud.
