Qatar's Ashghal Kicks off Hamad General Hospital Development Project

Doha, September 29, 2026 : Qatar's Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has commenced a national project to develop Hamad General Hospital's facilities, systems, infrastructure, and supporting services.

Project Aims to Enhance Hospital's Operational Readiness

An Ashghal statement issued Tuesday said the project forms part of a national strategy aimed at comprehensively enhancing the hospital's operational readiness and safety levels, ensuring the delivery of medical services to the highest standards.

QR 1.179 Billion Project Set for 2027 Completion

The initiative is being implemented in cooperation with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) at a total cost of approximately QR 1.179 billion, with completion expected in the third quarter of 2027.

Three Main Packages to Ensure Continued Hospital Operations

Acting Head of the Health Projects Section at Ashghal Eng. Ahmed Al Emadi said the project includes three main packages designed to ensure the continued operation of the hospital's vital departments and services throughout construction. These include the construction of a new Day Surgery Building, the modernization of the Outpatient Tower and the hospital's Main Building, the renovation and rehabilitation of the North and South Inpatient Towers, and the upgrading of various systems, supporting services, and infrastructure.

HMC Highlights Ongoing Modernization Efforts

HMC's Head of Healthcare Facilities Development Hamad Al Khalifa said the project forms part of HMC's ongoing efforts to modernize its facilities and infrastructure in line with the continued development of healthcare services and the growing needs of patients and visitors.

Complete Overhaul of Mechanical, Electrical Systems Planned

Project Engineer Eng. Maryam Al Marzouqi said the project includes the complete replacement of the hospital's mechanical and electrical systems, internal drainage systems, and supporting services, in accordance with the latest technical and engineering standards.
