Asian Games: Qatar's Younousse and Tijan Qualify for Round of 16 in Beach Volleyball

Nagoya, September 27, 2026 :  Qatar's Team A beach volleyball duo has secured a spot in the Round of 16 of the men's beach volleyball competition at the 20th Asian Games (Aichi-Nagoya 2026), currently underway in Japan through October 4.

Qatar's Team A, made up of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan — winners of gold in the last two editions — topped Group A after defeating Oman's duo Hood Al Jalboubi and Mazen Al Hashmi twice, by scores of 21-19 and 21-19.

Qatar are considered the top contenders to claim gold and retain the title for a third consecutive edition, having previously triumphed at the 2018 Palembang and 2022 Hangzhou Games.

Meanwhile, Qatar's Team B, comprising Mousa Al Khair and Mohamed Ihab, also advanced to the Round of 16 on Saturday, finishing second in Group D behind Thailand A.

Other teams to qualify for the Round of 16 include: China A and Vietnam (Group B); Indonesia A and Vietnam B (Group C); Kazakhstan and Indonesia B (Group E); Iran and Thailand B (Group F); China B and Japan B (Group G); and Japan A and Iran B (Group H).
