Qatar, Saudi Arabia Enhance Cooperation in Penal and Correctional Institutions

Qatar and Saudi Arabia are strengthening cooperation and exchanging expertise in the field of penal and correctional institutions, following a visit by a delegation from the Saudi Ministry of Interior to Qatar.

The delegation was received by Major General Nasser Mohammed Essa Al Sayed, Director of Qatar’s General Directorate of Penal and Correctional Institutions at the Ministry of Interior, along with a number of officers.

During the visit, the Saudi delegation was briefed on the Directorate’s key programmes and initiatives, providing an overview of its work and approach to correctional services.

The delegation also toured several departments and specialised units to learn more about the operational mechanisms, procedures and services provided to inmates.

Exchange of expertise and best practices

The visit provided an opportunity for officials from both countries to exchange expertise and review best practices in the management of penal and correctional institutions.

Discussions also focused on the implementation of modern correctional philosophy, reflecting the importance of developing effective approaches to rehabilitation and correctional services.

The exchange forms part of broader efforts to strengthen cooperation between Qatar and Saudi Arabia’s Interior Ministries and enhance professional knowledge and institutional capabilities.

The visit also highlights the two countries’ continued interest in sharing successful practices and developing modern approaches within the correctional sector.

Such exchanges can contribute to improving operational standards, strengthening institutional performance and supporting the development of correctional services in line with contemporary practices.
