Blindness Prevention Campaign

Dakar, September 15, 2026 : Qatar Charity, in cooperation with Senegal’s Ministry of Health and Social Action, has carried out a medical campaign to prevent and treat avoidable blindness in the Dakar and Saint-Louis regions as part of its ongoing “Ibsar” initiative.

The campaign provided eye examinations and medical consultations to 2,953 people, while beneficiaries received 1,290 prescription eyeglasses and 4,964 units of eye medications and eye drops.

The initiative focused on addressing cataracts, which are identified as the leading cause of blindness in Senegal, and improving access to eye care and treatment for vulnerable communities.

Advisor to the Senegalese Minister of Health Abdoulaye Ndiaye praised Qatar Charity’s efforts to support Senegal’s healthcare sector, particularly its initiatives aimed at addressing blindness and visual impairment through targeted medical programs and strengthening prevention and treatment services.

The campaign reflects Qatar Charity’s efforts to expand healthcare support for vulnerable groups. Restoring or improving beneficiaries’ vision can help enhance their quality of life and provide greater access to education and employment opportunities, supporting their path toward greater self-reliance.
