Qatar joins Global Education Meeting in Paris

The Global Education Meeting (GEM), which was inaugurated by French President Emmanuel Macron, concluded in Paris with the participation of the State of Qatar and in the presence of several leaders of the participating countries.

HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi headed the delegation of the State of Qatar participating in the meeting.

In her speech to the meeting, HE Minister of Education and Higher Education reviewed the most prominent achievements of the state in the field of education, stressing that the State of Qatar has made remarkable progress in accelerating Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4 progress, by formulating the second strategy for the education and training sector (2018 - 2022) and the plan of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in line with the SDG 4 the new general framework for education for the remaining ten years of the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan.

During the speech, HE the Minister indicated that in the field of policy advancement, the general framework of the curricula has been developed, so that sustainable development has become one of the essential elements in it, including the development of evaluation policies, registration, admission, and curricula standards.

In the field of learning environments, she referred to the development of the school environment to be safe, inclusive, and healthy, as well as the strengthening of curricular and extra-curricular educational programs in the field of awareness and education of the SDGs in various areas of life.

Regarding capacity building for teachers, Her Excellency referred to the programs and training courses for teachers on professional licenses, the teaching profession, and scientific subjects and their connection to contemporary issues and development goals. About 6,000 teachers have benefited from 71 training programs in the last academic year, she pointed out.

Concerning youth empowerment, HE the Minister pointed to the establishment of a youth forum that deals with some important issues of interest to youth groups while organizing some scientific, economic, and social programs to develop the capabilities of youth and students in these areas.

In the area of accelerating procedures at the national level, the state has taken several measures to enhance environmental protection community programs to increase green spaces, preserve plant and animal wildlife, recycle waste, and work to enhance and preserve the environment among young people, she explained.

HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi affirmed that the wise leadership of the State of Qatar firmly believes that education for sustainable development is education for a bright future, for everyone at every time and place, for a successful transition towards societies in which the spirit of tolerance and peace prevails, and the spirit of national identity and global human citizenship is strengthened in their hearts.

HE the Minister pointed out that the responsibility of education in achieving development goals is not limited to the recognized education systems, but it must adopt the "lifelong learning" methodology, including the different systems of education, training, and qualification of teachers, as these components are vital components of capacity building to contribute to the reorientation of education towards sustainability, which requires comprehensive cooperation with relevant international and regional organizations, and civil society organizations to obtain expertise, technical advice, and financial support, in addition to twinning in the establishment of projects and programs to exchange successful experiences with partners in relevant countries and institutions.

GEM focused on stimulating global political commitments to further highlight the importance of education, stressing the need for investments in educational sectors as a key driver for recovering from the COVID-19 effects and accelerating the 2030 SDGs to transform for a better future of education.

Furthermore, the State of Qatar participated in the tenth consultative meeting of the Ministers of Education in the member states of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States, which was held in Paris.

HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi headed the delegation of the State of Qatar in the meeting.

During the meeting, they discussed several important topics on the agenda.

On the sidelines of the participation, HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi met separately with HE Libyan Minister of Education Dr. Musa Mohamed Al Maqrif and HE Lebanese Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Abbas Al Halabi.

During the two meetings, they reviewed ways to exchange experiences and best practices in the field of education.
