In June 2024, Hamad, Ruwais, and Doha ports achieved the second-highest monthly container handling rate, managing over 144,000 TEUs, a 51% increase compared to June 2023. General and bulk cargo, livestock, RORO, and vessel handling also saw significant growth, with increases of 163%, 149%, 108%, and 23% respectively, according to Mwani Qatar.
The ports handled 144,884 tonnes of containers, receiving 242 vessels. General and bulk cargo totaled 56,934 tonnes, RORO units 15,680, livestock 59,129 heads, and building materials 22,504 tonnes. In Q1 2024, container handling reached 351,564 TEUs, up 4% from the previous year, with notable rises in livestock (46%), RORO units (4%), and building materials (6%).
QTerminals reported 144,749 TEUs handled in June 2024 and achieved record highs with 248,564 tonnes and 15,644 RORO units. Hamad Port alone managed 123 vessels, 144,749 TEUs, 34,768 F/T, and 15,644 RORO units.
Sustainability initiatives at Hamad Port include replacing sodium vapor fixtures with energy-efficient LED lights and installing solar panels on reefer gantries, generating up to 3 MW of clean energy daily. These efforts align with Qatar’s goal to reduce its carbon footprint and enhance its position as a key Middle Eastern port.
Hamad Port continues to advance towards becoming a leading global trade hub, contributing to Qatar’s economic diversification in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
