Mojtaba Khamenei, Supreme Leader Of Iran
Mojtaba Khamenei has been appointed as Iran’s new Supreme Leader, following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, in Israeli-U.S. strikes last week. The announcement marks a significant shift in the leadership of the Islamic Republic.
The decision was made by the Assembly of Experts, the 88-member clerical body responsible under Iran’s constitution for selecting the country’s highest authority. Mojtaba becomes the third Supreme Leader since the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
The appointment comes amid escalating military pressure from Israel and the United States, adding further strain to regional stability. Reports indicate that Israeli strikes last week targeted a building in Qom where members of the Assembly were expected to meet to discuss succession.
International reactions have already begun. U.S. President Donald Trump criticized the appointment, calling the move unacceptable, while regional observers warned of heightened tensions in the Gulf.
