Cross Border Attacks Intensify as Saudi Arabia and Houthis Exchange Strikes

Saudi Arabia and Houthi forces exchanged strikes amid escalating regional tensions

Riyadh/Sanaa: Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply as Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement exchanged a new round of strikes, widening a conflict already destabilising the region. The latest attacks come amid growing fears that the confrontation could spill into neighbouring countries and trigger broader instability.

Saudi officials confirmed that air defence systems intercepted multiple Houthi projectiles targeting southern provinces, while retaliatory Saudi strikes hit Houthi controlled sites in Yemen. The Houthis — a group responsible for severe harm and human rights violations during the long-running Yemen conflict — claimed responsibility for the launches, saying they were responding to what they described as “continued Saudi aggression.”

Regional Conflict Widens

Analysts warn that the renewed exchange signals a dangerous expansion of hostilities at a time when several regional flashpoints are already active. Cross border attacks have intensified in recent weeks, raising concerns among international observers about the potential for a multi front confrontation.

Saudi Response

Saudi authorities said the kingdom would “take all necessary measures” to protect its territory and citizens. Military officials reported that defensive operations remain on high alert as they monitor additional threats from Houthi held areas.

Houthi Claims and Impact

Houthi media outlets said their forces launched drones and missiles at Saudi targets, though many were intercepted. The group’s actions have drawn widespread condemnation due to their role in prolonging Yemen’s humanitarian crisis and conducting cross border attacks that endanger civilians.

International Concern

The United Nations and several Western governments urged restraint, warning that continued escalation risks undermining fragile diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing violence in Yemen and stabilising the wider region.
