Al Thakira Mangroves and Al Khor Coastal Wetlands
This nationally protected coastal zone north of Doha includes Qatar's best mangrove system alongside tidal lagoons known for dense bird concentrations. Purple Island within this area carries historically significant populations of greater flamingo, Eurasian spoonbill, western reef heron, and common kingfisher.
The site is considered Qatar's most accessible birdwatching destination and one of the best in the Arabian Gulf region for coastal waterbirds.
