Qatar's strategic move towards economic diversification has made esports a promising growth sector.
Statista also highlighted that within Qatar's esports market, mobile games represent the largest segment, with a projected market size of $47.24 million in 2024.
Globally, China is expected to lead the esports market with a projected revenue of $94.49 billion in 2024. In Qatar, the average revenue per user (ARPU) in the esports market is estimated to be $323.20 in 2024, driven by the rising popularity of mobile gaming among tech-savvy youth.

Khalifa Al Haroon, Executive Director of QESF, emphasized that Qatar's commitment to esports through infrastructure and talent development aligns with its vision to become a global hub for competitive gaming and digital innovation.
"Qatar is fostering local talent and solidifying its presence in the global gaming and digital space. In the GCC, there's a focus on unity, collaboration, and healthy competition. Through initiatives like GamersAid, we're working together to elevate the esports industry worldwide," Al Haroon shared during a recent interview on Qatar's leading sports podcast, "In The Game."
Recently, QESF and esports production company ESB signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to launch a $2.6 million Dota 2 league, with the first of three events taking place in April in Doha.
"Qatar is positioning itself as a major player in the esports market, which aligns with its vision of being a significant force in global sports. The industry has seen rapid growth, and Qatar is capitalizing on the evolving sports landscape. With strategic initiatives like Qatar SportsTech and its accelerator program, Qatar is proving its global relevance and is just beginning—there's more to come," said Steve Mackie, host and producer of the "In The Game" podcast.
