Ministry of Municipality to implement digitalization for its waste disposal permit service
The Ministry of Municipality has implemented digitalization for its waste disposal permit service, scheduled to launch on March 30, 2024. This new service allows beneficiaries to request permits for waste disposal at the ministry's dumpsites or landfills.
Key features include the automatic issuance of permits upon document verification through linkage with the Ministry of Interior, without manual intervention. The Waste Recycling and Treatment Department of the Ministry of Municipality conducted a workshop yesterday for government agencies, institutions, and private sector companies to pilot the new version of the waste disposal permit service.
This workshop coincided with Global Recycling Day and aimed to introduce stakeholders to the new service before its official launch on March 30, coinciding with the International Day of Zero Waste.
Eng Hamad Jassim Al Bahr, Director of the Waste Recycling and Treatment Department, highlighted that the new service, available on the ministry's website, targets all segments of society. It aims to streamline the application process for waste disposal permits by introducing features that simplify operations, expedite transactions, and enhance accuracy, transparency, and reliability.
Key features of the new service include automatic permit issuance upon document verification through linkage with the Ministry of Interior, except for specific cases such as vehicle ownership by individuals under 18 years old. It also enables digital vehicle registration through linkage with the General Directorate of Traffic, ensuring only valid vehicles can register.
Moreover, the new service consolidates permits for vehicles and locations, simplifying the application process for beneficiaries. It also allows for adding permits for multiple vehicles within the same application to facilitate entry operations. Additionally, the default permit period is unified to three months, linked to the vehicle's road permit expiry date.
Other features focus on waste management, such as recording the actual weights of vehicle loads on-site and ensuring waste disposal occurs in designated locations for all beneficiary vehicles.
Hamda Abdel Aziz Al Maadeed, Director of the Information Systems Department, explained that this new service is part of the Ministry of Municipality's digital transformation project, aimed at enhancing public service delivery. Currently, the project aims to develop 400 services, with 148 services available on the website and 139 services and inquiries accessible through the "Oun" app. Electronic links with various data sources ensure data validity, accuracy, and real-time updates.
