Ministry of Municipality Announces Organization of Food Systems National Dialogue on August 10

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment announced the organization of Qatar Food Systems National Dialogue on August 10 and 11, in the framework of the preparation for the UN Food Systems Summit 2021 which will be held in September with the participation of leaders of the member states of the United Nations.

The National Dialogue will bring together all stakeholders in food systems in the State of Qatar, to discuss aspects of developing food systems and ways to overcome challenges and obstacles, in accordance with the objectives of the United Nations.

The National Dialogue provides all stakeholders in food systems, including consumers, producers, wholesalers and retailers, researchers, students and policy makers, an opportunity to discuss and develop the food system in the State of Qatar.

The Organizing Committee called on all stakeholders to participate in the National Dialogue, which is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.

Due to the COVID-19 preventive measures, the number of attendees allowed for the event will be limited, therefore those wishing to participate must register in advance through the registration link in the National Food System Dialogue on the website of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, the Organizing Committee noted.

The Food Systems Summit was announced by the UN Secretary-General in 2019 to identify innovative solutions that will transform food systems to be more inclusive, equitable and sustainable.

The summit will address a number of issues, including climate change, health damages related to poor nutrition, and the negative impact of food production on natural resources, in addition to examining the sustainability and viability of food systems for growth. For that purpose, member states were asked to organize national dialogues for food systems.
