Doha Metro
The AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 Local Organising Committee (LOC) has partnered with the Ministry of Transport to enhance the fan experience during the tournament. Ticket holders on match days will receive a complimentary Doha Metro day pass, valid only on the specified match day. Tickets will be scanned at metro stations, and fans traveling on the designated days will be eligible for the free pass, allowing access to the Doha Metro network for that day.
Of the nine stadiums used for the tournament, five are directly accessible by metro, while the others will have a free shuttle service connecting them to the nearest metro station. Lusail, Al Wakra, Free Zone, and Qatar University stations will provide free shuttle services to Al Bayt, Al Janoub, Al Thumama, and Abdullah bin Khalifa stadiums, respectively. The entire journey is wheelchair accessible, emphasizing inclusivity.
Engr. Faisal Al Moftah, Executive Director of Mobility at the LOC, highlighted the importance of smooth movement between venues for a successful tournament. Qatar's compact layout ensures a maximum distance of 75km between any two stadiums, allowing fans to attend multiple matches per day. The robust transportation infrastructure aims to facilitate easy access for both fans and participating teams.
Doha Metro also provided updates on its Park & Ride service during the tournament, advising commuters on alternative parking locations on match days to ensure efficient transportation, particularly at Lusail QNB, Education City, and Al Sudan stations. The initiative encourages fans to utilize the modern road and rail network, enhancing the overall experience of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.
