Air raid sirens sounded across Bahrain again on Saturday, as the kingdom's Interior Ministry urged citizens and residents to remain calm and move to the nearest safe location amid an intensifying military confrontation between Iran and the United States.
It was the latest in a series of alerts to ring out over the Gulf state in recent days. The ministry, posting on X, told the public to follow official channels for updates, while Bahrain's army said its air defences had repelled a wave of incoming Iranian attacks, reporting that it had intercepted and destroyed several aerial assaults over the country.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they had targeted sites in Bahrain, including Sheikh Isa Air Base which hosts US combat aircraft and a facility they identified as an intelligence data centre. Bahrain hosts the US Navy's Fifth Fleet, making it one of the most significant American military hubs in the region and a focal point in Tehran's campaign of retaliation against US strikes.
A widening confrontation
The alerts in Bahrain came on what regional reporting described as the seventh consecutive night of US strikes on Iran, met by renewed Iranian missile and drone barrages aimed at American military facilities and their Gulf hosts. US Central Command said its forces were continuing operations designed to degrade Iran's military capabilities.
The fighting has drawn in several of Washington's regional partners. Kuwait reported fresh Iranian strikes on a power and water plant and an oil facility, causing injuries and material damage, and temporarily suspended operations at Kuwait International Airport, forcing Kuwait Airways to reschedule flights. Jordan's army said it had intercepted and shot down 10 Iranian missiles that entered its airspace, reporting no casualties or damage.
Casualties have mounted inside Iran. Provincial officials cited by Iranian media said recent US strikes on the southern Hormozgan province had killed several civilians, including in the port city of Bandar Abbas.
Escalating rhetoric
Iranian officials warned of a sharper response if the US campaign continues. Major General Mohsen Rezaei, a senior military adviser to Iran's supreme leader, said Tehran would move beyond like-for-like retaliation and launch full-scale offensive operations if American strikes persisted for another two to three days, according to Iranian state media.
Many of the claims from both sides could not be independently verified, and accounts of what was struck and by whom remained contested.
Economic shockwaves
The strategic Strait of Hormuz, through which a large share of the world's seaborne oil passes, remained effectively closed amid conflicting claims over attacks on tankers, pushing crude prices higher and stoking concern over global energy supplies. Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they had stopped several vessels attempting to transit the waterway; the US military disputed Iranian accounts of tanker explosions there.
Diplomatic fallout
The United States moved to warn its nationals across the region. The US embassies in Beirut and Jerusalem issued security alerts, advising Americans to reconsider travel to or through the Middle East and citing the potential for sudden escalation.
What to watch
For residents of Bahrain and the wider Gulf, the immediate guidance from authorities is unchanged: heed official sirens and alerts, move to a safe location when warnings sound, and rely on verified government channels rather than social media rumor. With both Washington and Tehran signaling they are prepared to continue, and with the Strait of Hormuz at the center of the crisis, the coming days are likely to determine whether the confrontation widens further or moves toward de-escalation.
This is a developing story. Details are drawn from statements by Bahrain's Interior Ministry and armed forces, Kuwaiti and Jordanian authorities, US Central Command, Iranian state media, and reporting by AFP, The New Arab, Anadolu Agency, Middle East Eye and others (July 18, 2026). Figures and claims many of them contested by opposing parties should be reconfirmed against the latest official sources before publication.
