Doha, Capital of Culture in Islamic World’ activities to commence today

The Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021 activities will kick off today.

To be held under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the year-long activities will embrace the slogan, ‘Our Culture is Enlightenment.’

Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) is set to join the activities as a strategic partner.

The Ministry of Culture and Sports in co-operation with Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) and Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science will supervise the series of events to be held, as Doha becomes the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021.

Several other strategic partners in the country will participate in the activities.

The selection of Doha as the capital of culture in the Islamic world reflects the country’s great role in promoting Arab culture and its position in advancing cultural giving, highlighted Aisha Abdullah Kafoud, Head of the Public Relations Department at MoEHE.

The official underlined that Qatar’s agreement to host this edition, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, shows the country's noble position’ to boost cultural relations.

It also shines a light on the country’s efforts to convey its message to the world that Qatar considers culture and arts, education and research of prime importance.

The country’s name has been associated since a long time with pioneering cultural publications that contributed to enlightenment worldwide, Kafoud pointed out.

MoEHE will hold activities that draw attention to Qatar’s rich cultural diversity, historical monuments, and its human values.
