Road accident fatalities have decreased by over 57

Serious road accidents resulting in fatalities dropped by over 57% in July compared to the previous month, continuing the positive trend in road safety improvements nationwide.

In July, only six deaths were reported in traffic accidents, a significant decrease from the 14 fatalities recorded in June 2024, according to data from the National Planning Council (NPC).

This figure represents the lowest monthly death toll so far this year. Additionally, the total number of road accidents decreased by 7% month-on-month, from 647 in June to 602 in July.

The vast majority of these incidents were minor, with only 23 classified as major accidents during the month.

Overall, there have been 89 road accident fatalities during the first seven months of 2024, with a total of 5,164 traffic accidents, including 261 major ones.

Road safety indicators have shown consistent improvement since January, when there were 843 total accidents, including 41 major ones and 17 fatalities.

This improvement is attributed to the Ministry of Interior’s ongoing efforts to enhance road safety through the strict enforcement of traffic regulations and increased public awareness of the importance of following these laws. The country’s world-class road infrastructure and traffic monitoring systems have also played a crucial role in improving road safety for everyone.

To further ensure the effective enforcement of road safety regulations, traffic police have begun monitoring seatbelt and mobile phone use violations through surveillance cameras installed at various roads and intersections across the country.
