Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani
The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) held a ceremony marking its 45th anniversary in the presence of HE President of the QOC, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani.
Also present were HE Minister of Sports and Youth, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Thani, along with several Gulf and Qatari sports leaders and representatives of the Olympic Committees of the West Asia region.
At the beginning of the ceremony, there was a screening of a film about the OIC progress and achievements over the past 45 years. The QOC was established on Mar. 14, 1979.
HE Secretary General of the QOC, Jassim bin Rashid Al Buainain, delivered a speech highlighting the QOC's multi-field achievements and great successes under the generous patronage of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
The QOC has made a qualitative leap in Qatari sports, through the distinguished leadership of Their Highnesses and Excellencies who led the QOC and the sincere efforts made by all QOC employees, Al Buainain said.
He added that the QOC's efforts contributed to strengthening Qatars global sporting position by organizing major events and tournaments in various games, the most recent of which was the thrilling World Aquatics Championships - Doha 2024 in February.
He added the QOC was seeking further achievements in the future to keep pace with the comprehensive renaissance process that the State of Qatar is experiencing under the wise leadership.
He affirmed the QOC's firm commitment to make Qatar a pioneering nation that brings the world together through sustainable sports development through the 2023-2030 strategy, which aims to ensure sporting excellence, promote Olympic culture, and achieve comprehensive sports development in line with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
He concluded by stressing the QOC's plans to spread sports in society, invest in the sporting legacy that resulted from previous achievements, and continue to achieve sporting achievements to honor Qatars name in various forums.
Qatari athletes who won medals in the first Gulf Youth Games, in the UAE in April, were honored.
