Qatar Charity (QC) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have signed a Letter of Understanding (LoU), accompanied by a Data Sharing Addendum, aimed at enhancing joint efforts to meet the humanitarian needs of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

The LoU was signed as part of broader cooperation intended to strengthen coordination and joint work between the two parties, particularly in the areas of shelter and camp management, as well as the provision of relief materials and essential services for the most vulnerable refugee populations.

The agreement was signed on behalf of UNHCR by Ivo Freijsen, Representative of UNHCR in Bangladesh, and on behalf of QC by Zakarya Al Motair, Country Director of QC's Bangladesh office.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ivo Freijsen noted that the funding challenges expected in 2026 would be extremely difficult, emphasizing that strong partnerships with humanitarian organizations like QC are now more important than ever.

He explained that enhancing coordination between the two sides would allow better prioritization of life-saving assistance and ensure that limited resources reach the most in need.

For his part, Zakarya Al Motair reaffirmed QC's firm commitment to supporting Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, highlighting that this LoU represents a new step to open wider horizons for cooperation with UNHCR to support the most vulnerable refugees living in extremely harsh conditions within one of the world's largest and most congested camps.

He added that this partnership reflects QC's belief in the importance of collective humanitarian action, stressing that coordinated efforts are essential to addressing the complexities of the protracted Rohingya crisis.
