Qatar beach volleyball
The Qatari beach volleyball team, composed of the pair Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan (Qatar Team 1), made it to the round of 16 in Samila Asian Open Tour Championship.
The championship began Sunday in Thailand, featuring 27 teams from 15 countries.
In the tournaments of the second group in the competitions today, Qatar (1) qualified after beating Hong Kong 1 in two consecutive sets with scores of (21-7) and (21-8), to top its group with a perfect score (6 points) after winning yesterday against Omanis counterpart, who came second with 5 points while was outpaced in the tournament team Hong Kong 1 which finished third.
By achieving this victory, the Qatari national team will face its Chinese counterpart in the second round tomorrow, Tuesday, in a match that it would seek to win and qualify for the quarter-finals of the tournament.
In the first group, the Qatar team (2), composed of Mohamed Ehab and Moussa Al Khair, fell to Hong Kong (2) with one set against two sets for each team, at scores of 19-21 and 7-15. It thus leaving the tournament for its second match, as it lost to Thailand (1) with two sets without reply (12-21) and (16-21).
The Qatari national team’s participation in the tournament is part of an extensive preparatory program starting from having it competing in this important championship and followed by its joining to a training camp in Thailand, during 16-19 April, as part of its preparation for taking part in the Asian Beach Games “Sanya” which will be held in China from 22 to April 30.
