Qatar University Launches Masar App for Smarter Campus Mobility

Doha, September 30, 2026 : Qatar University (QU) has launched Masar by QU, a smart mobility application designed to make travel to and around the university campus more convenient, efficient, and informed.

With the launch, QU becomes the first university in Qatar to introduce a dedicated smart mobility app, using technology and real-time data to help students, staff, and visitors navigate the campus more effectively.

Masar uses AI-powered cameras and sensors to provide real-time updates on traffic conditions, campus gate access, and parking availability. The app also offers congestion alerts, along with information on university bus routes and schedules, helping users plan their journeys and select suitable routes.

The system is designed to address the university’s significant daily traffic volume, with the campus receiving approximately 200,000 vehicles each week.

Vice President of Administration and Financial Affairs at Qatar University Dr. Mai Al Naemi said Masar reflects the university’s efforts to enhance the campus experience through technology and innovation.

She noted that the application supports the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 by using technology to improve quality of life and promote sustainable development, while helping the university make more effective use of its infrastructure and resources.

Associate Vice President for Operations Support and Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Dr. Mohammed Elshafie said the development of Masar was guided by the mobility needs and daily travel patterns of the university community.

He noted that students played an important role in testing and developing the application, adding that the current launch represents the first phase of Masar, with additional features and solutions planned to further improve mobility around campus.

The launch builds on a range of transportation and mobility improvements already introduced at Qatar University, including expanded parking facilities, the QU Campus Express, connections to the Doha Metro, student housing shuttle services, accessible transportation options, and air-conditioned waiting areas.

Through Masar, Qatar University also aims to promote safer and more responsible travel practices across campus by encouraging users to plan their journeys in advance, use parking and transportation services responsibly, follow speed limits, prioritize pedestrian safety, and avoid distractions while driving.
