Al Annabi Squad: Key Players to Watch
Qatar's 26-man World Cup squad builds on the core group that reached the quarter-finals of the 2023 Asian Cup. These players are central to Qatar's 2026 campaign:
Akram Afif — Forward
The 2023 AFC Player of the Year is Qatar's most dangerous attacking weapon. Afif's pace, dribbling ability, and instinct for cutting in from the right make him a constant threat against any defence. His World Cup performances will define how far Qatar goes in the tournament.
Almoez Ali — Striker
Qatar's all-time leading scorer is the focal point of the attack. Famous for his acrobatic goals at the 2019 Asian Cup, Ali now brings greater experience and authority to the striker position and will lead the line against Switzerland, Cameroon, and Serbia.
Abdelkarim Hassan — Midfielder
One of the most experienced international players in the squad, Hassan provides the engine and creative outlet in Qatar's midfield. His ability to cover ground and link defence with attack makes him central to Qatar's pressing system.
Meshaal Barsham — Goalkeeper
Qatar's first-choice goalkeeper was excellent during the 2022 World Cup despite difficult group-stage results. Barsham's shot-stopping and composure under pressure will be tested severely against the attacking quality of Switzerland and Serbia.
