The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the biggest in history. For the first time, 48 teams are competing across 12 groups hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament runs from June 11 to July 19, with the final taking place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The top two teams from each group advance automatically to the Round of 32. The eight best third-place finishers across all 12 groups also qualify, making advancement routes more complex and dramatic than any previous World Cup.
Here is a complete breakdown of every group, every result, and what is at stake in the final matchday.
Group A — Mexico, South Africa, South Korea, Czechia
Mexico stormed through the group. They beat South Africa 2-0 on June 11, defeated South Korea 1-0 on June 18, and then crushed Czechia 3-0 on June 24. Three wins, three clean sheets, nine points. Mexico top the group and have already qualified.
South Africa pulled off a surprise, beating South Korea 1-0 on June 24 to finish second. South Korea are eliminated. Czechia are also out.
Group B — Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Switzerland, Qatar
Switzerland impressed throughout. They drew 1-1 with Qatar on June 13, beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1 on June 18, then finished the group with a 3-1 win over Canada on June 24. Switzerland advance as group winners.
Canada drew their opener with Bosnia 1-1 on June 12 but then put together a remarkable 6-0 win over Qatar on June 18. The loss to Switzerland on June 24 leaves Canada in second place, but they still advance.
Bosnia beat Qatar 3-1 in the final round to stay alive as a potential third-place qualifier. Qatar are eliminated.
Group C — Brazil, Morocco, Scotland, Haiti
Brazil drew with Morocco 1-1 on June 13 but quickly found form. They beat Haiti 3-0 on June 19 and Scotland 3-0 on June 24. Brazil top the group and are through to the knockout rounds.
Morocco followed a solid path. They beat Scotland 1-0 on June 19 and then thrashed Haiti 4-2 on June 24. Morocco finish second and advance.
Scotland finish third after their only win came against Haiti on June 13. Haiti are eliminated without a win or a goal.
Group D — USA, Australia, Paraguay, Türkiye
The United States put on a dominant early display. They beat Paraguay 4-1 on June 12 and defeated Australia 2-0 on June 19. They won the group for the first time since 2010.
Australia beat Türkiye 2-0 in their opener and sit second in the group heading into the final match against Paraguay on June 25. That match is still to be played today.
Türkiye and Paraguay both lost their second matches. One will go through as a third-place qualifier. The June 25 match between them is a must-win for both.
Group E — Germany, Ivory Coast, Ecuador, Curaçao
Germany have been clinical. They opened with a stunning 7-1 win over Curaçao on June 14 and followed it with a 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast on June 20. Germany top the group with six points heading into their final match against Ecuador on June 25, which is being played today.
Ivory Coast beat Ecuador 1-0 in their opener but then lost to Germany. Their match against Curaçao on June 25 is crucial for their survival.
Ecuador drew 0-0 with Curaçao on June 20. They face Germany today in a match that will determine their fate.
Group F — Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Tunisia
Netherlands have been powerful. They drew 2-2 with Japan on June 14 but then beat Sweden 5-1 on June 20. They sit first in the group.
Japan are the real story. After drawing with the Dutch, they hammered Tunisia 4-0 on June 20. Japan face Sweden today on June 25, with both teams fighting for position.
Sweden beat Tunisia 5-1 to open but then lost badly to the Netherlands.
Group G — Belgium, Egypt, Iran, New Zealand
This group has produced tight football. Belgium drew 1-1 with Egypt and then drew 0-0 with Iran. Egypt beat New Zealand 3-1 on June 21. Iran drew 2-2 with New Zealand in their opener.
The final matchday on June 26 sees Egypt face Iran and New Zealand face Belgium. The top two spots are all still to play for. Belgium, Egypt, and Iran all have a realistic chance of advancing.
Group H — Spain, Uruguay, Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia
Spain are building momentum. They drew 0-0 with Cape Verde in their opener but then put Saudi Arabia to the sword 4-0 on June 21. Spain are strong favourites to win the group.
Uruguay drew with Saudi Arabia 1-1 on June 15 and beat Cape Verde 2-2. Wait — Uruguay drew 2-2 with Cape Verde on June 21. Uruguay sit second on four points.
The final matches on June 26 will see Uruguay vs Spain and Cape Verde vs Saudi Arabia decide the full picture.
Group I — France, Norway, Senegal, Iraq
This is the toughest group at the tournament. France beat Senegal 3-1 on June 16 and crushed Iraq 3-0 on June 22. France lead the group with six points and are through to the knockout rounds.
Norway have been equally impressive. They beat Iraq 4-1 on June 16 and then beat Senegal 3-2 on June 22. Norway are also through with six points.
The final match on June 26 pits France against Norway in what is effectively a dead rubber for advancement but a massive game for group bragging rights.
Group J — Argentina, Algeria, Austria, Jordan
Argentina are flying and Lionel Messi is the talk of the tournament. Argentina beat Austria 2-0 with Messi scoring record-breaking goals that made him the all-time top scorer in World Cup history. Algeria then beat Jordan, meaning Argentina have won the group.
Algeria sit second and need their final match against Austria to confirm their place in the Round of 32. Austria and Jordan are effectively eliminated.
Group K — Portugal, Colombia, DR Congo, Uzbekistan
Portugal bounced back emphatically with that 5-0 win over Uzbekistan on June 23. Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice and made World Cup history as the first player to score in six different World Cup campaigns.
Colombia lead the group with six points after beating DR Congo 1-0 on June 23. The final match between Colombia and Portugal on June 27 will decide the group winner.
Uzbekistan are eliminated. DR Congo remain alive with one point and need results to go their way.
Group L — England, Croatia, Ghana, Panama
England started strongly with a 4-2 win over Croatia on June 17. But they were held 0-0 by Ghana on June 23, which opened the door for drama. Croatia beat Panama 1-0 on June 24 to stay in contention.
England and Ghana are both on four points heading into the final matchday on June 27. England face Panama and Ghana face Croatia. Panama are already eliminated.

Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Mexico, Morocco, Norway, Switzerland, and the United States have all confirmed their places in the knockout rounds.
