Qatar Charity and Mauritania’s Ministry of Health have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in the healthcare sector and supporting the country’s health priorities.
The agreement seeks to address basic healthcare needs while aligning joint initiatives with Mauritania’s national health strategies and policies.
Agreement Covers Training and Healthcare Infrastructure
The MoU was signed on behalf of Qatar Charity by Omar Abdulaziz Mohammed, Director of its office in Mauritania, and on behalf of the Mauritanian Ministry of Health by Alia Yahya Meknous, Secretary-General of the Ministry.
Under the agreement, the two sides will cooperate across several key areas, including:
Training and professional development
Healthcare workforce capacity building
Construction and equipping of health facilities
Medical campaigns and healthcare convoys
Financing and revolving financing mechanisms
The Mauritanian Ministry of Health will be responsible for operating and maintaining healthcare facilities benefiting from the cooperation.
Qatar Charity Highlights New Health Initiatives
The Director of Qatar Charity’s office in Mauritania said the new projects represent a significant development in terms of the groups and medical specialties being targeted.
He noted that Qatar Charity works to align its projects with the Mauritanian government’s plans and national healthcare strategies.
Mauritania Welcomes Expanded Cooperation
The Secretary-General of Mauritania’s Ministry of Health reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to cooperate with Qatar Charity and provide the necessary support and facilities for its healthcare initiatives.
She also highlighted the importance of the health projects being prepared and implemented by Qatar Charity’s office in the country.
Qatar Charity Signs Cardiology Centre Agreement
In a related development, Qatar Charity’s office in Mauritania signed another MoU with the National Cardiology Center.
The agreement aims to establish a framework for cooperation in healthcare and cardiology while identifying opportunities for joint initiatives and improving specialised medical services.
The partnership will support specialised treatment programmes, including cardiac catheterisation procedures and the correction of heart defects.
It will also focus on training and developing local healthcare professionals and organising specialised medical campaigns and convoys.
Ongoing Healthcare Projects in Mauritania
Qatar Charity is already implementing several specialised healthcare initiatives across Mauritania.
Current projects include the establishment of a new health centre, campaigns providing open-heart surgery for 18 children, and cochlear implants for children with hearing loss.
The organisation is also supporting treatment for people suffering from cataracts that can cause blindness and distributing essential, life-saving medicines.
Programme Targets Malnutrition Among Vulnerable Groups
Qatar Charity is also implementing a multi-month programme focused on preventing malnutrition across several Mauritanian districts.
The initiative aims to improve the health and nutritional wellbeing of vulnerable communities and strengthen access to essential healthcare and nutritional support.
Expanding Qatar-Mauritania Healthcare Partnership
The latest agreements reflect efforts by Qatar Charity and Mauritanian health authorities to expand cooperation in healthcare delivery, medical training and specialised treatment.
Through infrastructure development, capacity building and targeted medical programmes, the partnerships aim to improve healthcare access and support better health outcomes for communities across Mauritania.
