Ramez al-Khayyat, Vice-Chairman and Group CEO of PIH
On the International Women's Day on 8 March, Power International Holding (PIH), has signed on to the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), making it the first private company in Qatar to do so.
As of today, the WEPs chaired by UN Women and UN Global Compact have over 5,000 signatories in 141 countries, representing over 10 million employees.
By joining WEPs community, Power International Holding reinforces its commitment to gender equality at the highest level, working collaboratively as part of multi-stakeholder networks that promote empowering business practices for women, said Mr. Ramez Al-Khayyat, Vice Chairman and Group CEO of PIH.
The WEPs contain seven core principles: high-level corporate leadership, fair treatment without discrimination, emoloyee health, wellbeing and safety, education and training for employees, enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices, community initiatives and advocacy, and measurement and reporting.
“The seven principles closely align with our vision of realising a brighter, more sustainable future for Qatar. As such, we are proud to adopt the WEPs as the first Qatari company to jointly work on removing barriers that women face on the road to full economic participation,” Al-Khayyat added.
PIH became a member of the UN Global Compact, the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative, in 2020, and has since created a diverse and inclusive workplace to support the company’s innovation and growth targets.
In accordance with the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Qatar National Vision 2030, PIH is grounded in the ten universally accepted principles of the UN Global Compact, which include human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
With several long-term initiatives advocating for the Sustainable Development Goals, PIH continues to communicate how business can benefit the region and the globe economically, socially, and environmentally.
PIH is a Qatari company managing a diverse portfolio of businesses locally and around the globe, including general contracting, real estate development, agro-food manufacturing, lifestyle, and professional services.
