Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Maio
HE Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi Di Maio will start an official visit to the State of Qatar on Saturday evening.
The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a statement that Minister Di Maio's visit to Qatar is part of a tour that will also take him to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Pakistan, within the framework of the international initiatives undertaken by Italy to address the situation in Afghanistan.
The statement noted that Di Maio's visit to Doha aims to extend thanks to the State of Qatar for the crucial assistance provided to Italy in the evacuation of its citizens from Afghanistan, examine in-depth the political aspects of the new situation in Afghanistan, and confirm the joint commitment to the fight against terrorism.
The statement added that Di Maio will discuss with officials in the three other countries the latest developments in Afghanistan and means to enhance regional stability, in addition to the issue of refugees and displaced persons, and the delivery of humanitarian aid to Afghan refugees.
