Qatar Suspends Gaza Mediation Due to Lack of Seriousness from Participating Parties

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, has clarified Qatar's position on mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas, affirming the continued openness of Hamas' office in Doha despite the suspension of negotiations. During the Ministry's weekly briefing, Dr. Al Ansari stated that Qatarā€™s decision to pause its mediation role stemmed from a lack of commitment from the involved parties, not from a shift in its diplomatic stance.

He stressed that Qatar remains ready to resume negotiations when favorable conditions arise, emphasizing the nationā€™s unwavering focus on humanitarian efforts in Gaza. ā€œQatar has been committed since day one to de-escalate tensions, alleviate Palestinian suffering, and facilitate the return of prisoners and hostages,ā€ Dr. Al Ansari said. He underscored Qatarā€™s current priority of intensifying humanitarian aid delivery in collaboration with Egypt and other Arab nations.

Commitment to De-escalation and Humanitarian Aid

Dr. Al Ansari highlighted Qatarā€™s long-standing efforts to end the conflict and deliver aid, reiterating that these objectives remain non-negotiable. He welcomed decisions by some European countries to halt arms sales to Israel, emphasizing Qatarā€™s support for measures that de-escalate conflicts.

Qatarā€™s Stance on Global Crises

On the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the spokesperson reiterated Qatar's consistent advocacy for Ukraineā€™s sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing the importance of peaceful resolutions. He pointed to Qatarā€™s initiatives in reuniting war-affected children and promoting dialogue as part of its humanitarian diplomacy.

Ministry Updates on Regional Engagements

Dr. Al Ansari announced that HE Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, will lead Qatarā€™s delegation to the upcoming GCC Ministerial Preparatory Meeting. He also reviewed recent diplomatic engagements, including high-level meetings in Jordan and Kuwait and discussions on the Gaza crisis with Spain's State Secretary for Foreign Affairs.

Humanitarian Contributions

Qatarā€™s commitment to global humanitarian aid was also emphasized, with updates on recent deliveries to Afghanistan and Lebanon. A total of 183 tons of aid has been sent to Afghanistan, while Lebanon has received 320 tons via Qatarā€™s air bridge operations. Qatar strongly condemned the bombing of a UNRWA school in Gaza, calling on the international community to take urgent action.

Through these efforts, Qatar reaffirms its role as a mediator and humanitarian supporter in regional and global crises.
