Paris, September 17, 2026 : French President Emmanuel Macron and Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun discussed developments in Lebanon amid continued Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory.

According to a statement from the Lebanese Presidency, the two leaders reviewed the latest developments in Lebanon, including Israeli attacks on villages and towns, and discussed diplomatic efforts aimed at bringing the attacks to an end.

The talks also covered the Lebanese-US-Israeli negotiations and the framework agreement reached as part of that process.

President Aoun briefed Macron on the latest developments in southern Lebanon, as well as the situation following the planned end of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission.

The two presidents also discussed progress on proposals being prepared at the UN Security Council concerning the future of the international presence in southern Lebanon. The proposals seek to support the diplomatic process and prevent a security vacuum following the expiration of UNIFIL’s mandate.

The discussions further addressed opportunities to strengthen cooperation between France and Lebanon in several areas, particularly the economy and energy.
