Doha Institute for Graduate Studies received the first cohort of PHD program, in the programs announced by the Institute late last year.

During the introductory meeting for students enrolled in doctoral programs, President of the Institute Dr. Abdelwahab El Affendi explained that four students were accepted; two Qatari students, a resident student and an international student from Switzerland, considering that the launch of the PHD program is the pinnacle of achievement for a graduate institution, it deservedly deserves this status and only reached it with a lot of effort and fulfillment of its components.

For her part, Executive Director of the Administration and Finance Division Eman Al Sulaiti said that the doctoral studies track is a pivotal and important step in achieving the Institute's goal to become an international center of excellence, and to advance knowledge in the social, human and administrative sciences to contribute to strengthening the academic community, vibrant with creativity and rich diversity, and present at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies.

Director of the Board of Doctoral Studies Dr Mohamed Al Nawawi stressed that the student admission process was subject to rules and conditions based on the principle of competitiveness based on academic merit, and relying on the best practices in the field of student admission.

He added that the Institute aims through doctoral programs to train generations of Qatari and Arab researchers to enable them to pursue their graduate studies and engage in the development of their communities from their various locations and specialties, stressing that the course of doctoral studies is one of the deepest specialized academic fields of its kind in the region.

As for the date of opening the door for admission and registration for the next academic year, Dr. Al-Nawawi said that the start of receiving electronic applications for the second cohort will be announced on the first of September this year, pointing out that the duration of a doctoral student at the Institute ranges from four to five years.

The institute offers eight doctoral programs in development economics, public administration, political science and international relations, Arabic linguistics and lexicography, history, sociology, media studies, and monetary security studies.
