Qatar mandates employers to transfer wages within 7 days of the due date

The Ministry of Justice has released Official Gazette Issue No. (15) of 2026 on September 8, 2026. The publication includes a new decision by the Minister of Labour amending provisions related to Qatar’s Wage Protection System (WPS).

Minister of Labour Issues New Decision

Dr Ali bin Samikh Al-Marri, Minister of Labour, issued Decision No. (50) of 2026, which amends Article (2) of Decision No. (4) of 2015 concerning WPS regulations for employees covered by the Labour Law.

Wages Must Be Deposited Through WPS

Under the amended provision, employers must deposit wages for annual or monthly workers into their employees’ bank accounts at financial institutions operating in Qatar.

The payments must be made through the Wage Protection System, ensuring that employees receive their salaries within the specified timeframe.

Monthly Wages Payable on First Day of Each Month

The amendment states that wages for annual and monthly workers will be payable on the first day of each calendar month.

Employers are required to deposit these wages into employees’ bank accounts within seven days from the date the wages become due.

Payment Schedule for Other Workers

For workers who are not covered under the annual or monthly wage arrangement, salaries will be scheduled for payment on the first day of every two weeks.

This provision establishes a regular payment cycle for workers under the applicable labour regulations.

Decision Takes Immediate Effect

The Official Gazette states that all relevant authorities must implement the decision within their respective jurisdictions.

The amended provisions take effect immediately from the date of publication of Official Gazette Issue No. (15) of 2026.
