Silent Sky

Step into the early 1900s with this true story of astronomer Henrietta Leavitt. Hired at the Harvard Observatory, Henrietta isn’t allowed to touch a telescope or share an original idea. Instead, she joins a group of women “computers” charting the stars, all while measuring the light and distance of the heavens and trying to balance her love of science with family duty and the possibility of romance. Equal parts witty, moving and thought-provoking, this play shines a light on a woman’s place in a time of great scientific discovery, when women’s ideas were often dismissed until men took the credit. Recommended for ages 10+, with some adult themes.
