Washington, October 27, 2026 : Instagram is testing a new video format that allows selected creators to upload horizontal videos lasting up to 90 minutes, as the platform expands its focus on long-form content.
The feature, called “Features,” is designed for podcasters, comedians and other creators who produce full-length shows and programmes. Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the trial in a video alongside Tessa Lyons, the company’s vice president of product.
According to The Verge, citing an Instagram spokesperson, testing began with a limited group of creators in Brazil and is expanding to selected creators in the United States. The company plans to extend the trial to tens of thousands of creators across the US and other markets.
The new format is intended to complement, rather than replace, Instagram’s short-form vertical Reels. Creators will be able to link Reels to full-length videos, enabling viewers to move from short clips to complete programmes. Instagram is also testing tools that allow creators to turn segments of longer videos into Reels.
The longer videos are expected to be available in users’ feeds, on the Explore page and through Instagram’s television app, broadening viewing options beyond mobile devices. The platform is also testing a separate feature that enables creators to organise related Reels into episodic series.
The move puts Instagram in more direct competition with YouTube for audiences interested in podcasts, comedy specials and other creator-led programmes. It also supports Instagram’s broader efforts to expand video consumption on television screens.
