Doha, October 29, 2026 : Qatar has maintained its leading regional position in political stability and the rule of law in the World Bank’s 2026 update of the Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI), according to the National Planning Council.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the council said Qatar ranked among the region’s top three countries in government effectiveness, regulatory quality and control of corruption. The country also recorded improvements in four of the six governance dimensions compared with the previous edition.
Qatar scored 83.86% in political stability, 72.73% in government effectiveness, 72.67% in regulatory quality and 65.81% in control of corruption. The strongest improvement was recorded in control of corruption, which increased by 2.74 points.
The council said the results reflect Qatar’s continued efforts to strengthen institutional performance and improve government efficiency in line with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
It also highlighted the role of international governance indicators in identifying development priorities and areas requiring further improvement.
Published annually by the World Bank, the Worldwide Governance Indicators assess governance across more than 200 countries and territories through six dimensions: voice and accountability, political stability, government effectiveness, regulatory quality, rule of law, and control of corruption.
The indicators draw on data from hundreds of sources, including public opinion surveys, think tanks, civil society organisations and private companies.
