Nairobi, October 20, 2026 : The number of Ebola cases reported in Kenya has risen to eight, according to the country's health authorities.
Kenya's Director General for Health, Patrick Amoth, confirmed the latest case in a press statement, saying that 38 people had been tested, with one returning a positive result.
The newly identified patient reportedly experienced fever, headaches and muscle pain. Amoth said the individual was believed to have contracted the virus through contact with Kenya's first recorded case.
Earlier this month, Kenya confirmed its first case of the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola. The initial patient, who later died, had contracted the disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo before travelling overland to neighbouring Uganda and subsequently flying to Kenya.
Health authorities are continuing efforts to trace people who may have come into contact with the initial patient during the journey, as part of measures to contain the outbreak.
Containing the outbreak presents additional challenges because specific vaccines and treatments for the Bundibugyo strain remain unavailable, underscoring the importance of surveillance, early detection and contact tracing.
