Bogota, October 21, 2026 : Fourteen people have died and seven others sustained injuries after a gold mine collapsed in southwestern Colombia, according to local sources.
The collapse occurred in the Nariño department after a landslide struck an illegal mining site, causing the mine to cave in.
Illegal mining accidents are a recurring problem in Colombia, where inadequate infrastructure and insufficient safety measures increase the risks faced by workers at such sites.
