Doha, November 04, 2026 : The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has introduced updated policies governing Qatar's national domain names, .qa and قطر., aimed at strengthening digital security, improving reliability and simplifying domain registration and management.
The revised policies took effect on October 22, 2026, alongside the launch of a new domain registry system.
Among the key changes is the extension of the maximum domain registration period from five to 10 years, offering domain holders greater flexibility in managing their registrations.
The updated framework also sets out clearer procedures for domain registration, renewal, transfer and recovery, while defining domain holders' rights and responsibilities and strengthening the protection of their registration information.
It further introduces more specific eligibility requirements to help prevent domain misuse, identity impersonation and phishing attempts.
Commenting on the changes, CRA Technical Affairs Department Director Ali Al Suwaidi said the updates are intended to create a safer and more reliable digital environment while making national domain management easier for individuals and businesses.
He added that the revised policies would support the sustainability of Qatar's internet infrastructure and contribute to the country's digital economy, in line with the objectives of the Digital Agenda 2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030.
