New York, November 04, 2026 : The United Nations has strongly condemned the attack on a Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, calling on all parties concerned to safeguard freedom of navigation to and from the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking at his daily press briefing, UN Spokesperson for the Secretary-General Stéphane Dujarric said the UN Secretariat was deeply concerned by the increasing number of attacks targeting commercial vessels.
He warned that such incidents violate international law, further threaten freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and contribute to rising prices of essential commodities.
Dujarric noted that the resulting higher costs disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, who are least able to absorb the additional financial burden.
