Amir calls Israeli violations source of instability in the region

His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani called Israel's violations of international law "one of the most important sources of tension and instability" in the region.

The problems will linger unless Israel stop such practices, HH the Amir added while addressing the Jeddah Security and Development Summit in the Saudi city on Saturday.

He said the dangers looming over the Middle East region in light of the tense international situation require finding a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian cause.

"We look forward to an effective role for the United States in calling for serious negotiations to settle the Palestinian issue, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions."

"We stress the importance of Gulf relations, and that of the Arabs, in general, with the United States and the need to maintain and strengthen them.

"We reaffirm our firm position to spare the Gulf region & the Middle East in general, the dangers of nuclear armament, while recognizing the right of the states in the region to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes in accordance with international rules."

On the Ukrainian crisis, HH the Amir said the war has contributed to exacerbating an economic crisis that may lead to humanitarian disasters, especially in the case of food and crude oil.

"The State of Qatar will spare no effort in working with its partners in the region and the world to ensure a continuous flow of energy supplies."

On the Yemeni issue, he said, "We value the truce between the Yemeni parties, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia initiative for putting it forward, and we look forward to its continuation until a solution to this crisis is reached.

"We must agree on rules that we all respect to guide our action to resolve crises in Yemen, Libya and other countries."
