All Quran learning centres to reopen soon: Awqaf Minister

Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Ghanem bin Shaheen bin Ghanem Al Ghanem has said that the ministry is working in coordination with the competent authorities in the country to reopen all Holy Quran learning centres in the country during the coming period.

The Ministry announced on November 1, 2021, the resumption of teaching the Holy Quran to students at 61 centres, in line with the state’s plan for the gradual lifting of precautionary measures at that time. 

Speaking to QNA, on how the Holy Quran teaching centres can resume their activity after easing the precautionary and preventive measures imposed by the state after the COVID-19 crisis, the Minister affirmed the keenness of the ministry in its various departments since the beginning of the pandemic to take all preventive measures in line with the precautionary measures taken by the State to limit the spread of the virus, as all departments held their various events and activities remotely, taking advantage of modern electronic technology. 

The Department of Da’wah and Religious Guidance, since the start of the pandemic in 2020, has also launched “Taahod” programme to teach Quran through the Ministry of Education platform on Microsoft Teams programme. 

He called on all segments of society, men, women, youth, and girls as well as young children to benefit from the Quranic and advocacy programmes offered by the ministry in the country’s mosques and advocacy and Quranic centres and through the ministry’s accounts on social media platforms, the ministry’s website and Islam Web.

On the exceptional global project in its writing and design “Mus’haf Qatar”, which was inaugurated by the State of Qatar in 2008, the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs said that the journey of this project, which has started in 1991, represents the vision of an Amir and the march of a state, explaining that this project is a historical milestone for Qatar as it carries a great meaningfulness for the state, given that it is a renewed and modernised transcript of the Holy Qur’an in the name of the State of Qatar. 

The first international competition of its kind for Arabic calligraphy was held, which gathered about 120 of the most skilled calligraphers in the Islamic world, His Excellency said, adding that another similar competition on Quran designs was held, where the best three designers have won. 

The design of Mus’haf Qatar was formed from the beauty of nature with its dimensions and shapes, the giving of Islamic values with its purity and innate nature, and the Islamic civilization with its humanity and universality, he noted.

The Minister said that four editions of Mus’haf Qatar have been made so far, adding that the fifth edition is underway, while about 2.5 million copies of the Mus’haf Qatar have been distributed since its printing inside and outside Qatar. 

This distribution is carried out externally in more than 100 countries in different continents of the world, through the embassies of the State of Qatar in those countries, and in coordination with the Ministries of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Islamic centres, universities and international Islamic personalities, he added.
