Training for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 stadium managers kicks off

The first course of the training programme for security and safety managers for the 2022 World Cup stadiums kicked off yesterday in Doha.

As part of Qatar’s preparations to host the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East and the Arab world, the country has kicked off the first course of the training programme for security and safety managers for the stadiums that will be used for this world-class football tournament.

The training, held yesterday, was participated in by 28 managers and their assistants. It is organised by the qualification and training unit of the Security and Safety Operations Committee for the 2022 World Cup Qatar (SSOC), in coordination with the Sports Facilities Security Department at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), the body responsible for delivering the infrastructure projects for hosting the event.

After the inauguration, Abdullah Al Mohannadi, Director of the Facilities Security Department at SC, said the programme is organised in cooperation with the SSOC qualification and training unit, which made outstanding efforts in studying the needs of security and safety managers in the facilities of the World Cup stadiums then designing the training curriculum for them at the required speed.

He added that these efforts quickly bore fruit on the ground with the opening of the first cycle of the program, which aims to raise the efficiency and skills of managers of World Cup stadiums in accordance with international requirements for security operations.

Lt. Colonel Fahd Saeed Al Subaie, head of the SSOC qualification and training unit, explained that the programme is internationally accredited by FIFA and the British Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), adding that it meets the applicable leadership and security standards in the UK and European Union, based on the principles of gold, silver and bronze leadership, which is applied in major sporting events.

He mentioned that the programme includes 2 categories such as:

1. The 7-week training program for all managers and their assistants with 2 parts:
• First 2 weeks from Oct. 11 to 21
• Five-week course in 2022

2. Training program for managers only and granting of the international diploma in the security and safety of sports fans (level 4)

Al Subaie noted that the training content in the course that was launched today focuses on the bronze and silver leadership programme, which includes the following topics: 

• Security leadership
• Risk management
• Security command structures
• Security and safety principles
• Human rights
• Field leadership
• Emergency handling
• Alternative plans
• Theories
• Practical applications

The remaining five weeks of the programme are scheduled to be held in 2022, where the third week will focus on developing leadership skills, and it includes the following topics:

• Effective leadership and decision-making skills
• Communication skills
• Negotiation and persuasion skills
• Presentation skills
• Conflict resolution skills
• Problem-solving

The 2022 World Cup is taking place in Qatar in the winter months.

The tournament kicks off on Monday November 21 at the Al Bayt stadium in Al Khor with a match that will feature the host country.

The final will be played at the Lusail Stadium in Doha on Sunday December 18.
